Podor’s political shift: Ibrahima Diam Sow exits Pastef for Diomaye Faye alliance

The departure of Ibrahima Diam Sow from Pastef signals a pivotal moment in Podor’s political landscape. The former party coordinator has now aligned with the Diomaye-Président coalition, prioritizing national interests over party loyalty.
The municipal coordinator of Pastef in Méri and former president of the Mouvement des patriotes soumis (MPI), Ibrahima Diam Sow, has formally severed ties with the party led by Ousmane Sonko. This move follows deep disagreements with the party’s evolving direction.
Sow, who previously served as the party’s communications lead in Podor, cited significant ideological and operational discrepancies. He criticized what he described as numerous contradictions within the party and condemned a perceived dictatorship of rigid thought, arguing that these factors rendered the current political project incompatible with his vision.
In his new political chapter, Sow has pledged his support to the Diomaye-Président coalition, emphasizing alignment with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s leadership. His decision stems from a guiding principle: ‘The nation comes before the party.’
As a founding figure of Pastef in northern Senegal, Sow played a key role in establishing the party’s presence in Podor, a strategically vital region. His contributions included organizing Ousmane Sonko’s first visit to the area in 2017 and actively mobilizing local support alongside political allies like Ibrahima Sy.
