The political rift between Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has now spilled into the open. Speaking at a Sunday, July 12 rally in Touba to inaugurate the headquarters of his party, Pastef, Sonko vowed to bring down the government led by Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô “as many times as necessary.” This bold declaration, confirmed the following day, signals a full-blown confrontation between the former prime minister and the administration of President Faye.
