In a move rooted in personal conviction, Dr Bacary Thior has stepped down from his role at the Prime Minister’s office following Ousmane Sonko’s departure from the premiership. While announcing his resignation, he reaffirmed his dedication to public service and his continued support for Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party.

The announcement came shortly after Ousmane Sonko concluded his tenure as Prime Minister of Senegal, prompting Dr Bacary Thior to resign from his advisory position at the Primature.

In a statement released on Thursday, the former Technical Advisor for Health Affairs explained that his decision was made in strict adherence to his principles.

Why Dr Bacary Thior stepped down

“Following the conclusion of Ousmane Sonko’s duties as Prime Minister, I have decided to resign from the Cabinet in alignment with my core beliefs,” he stated.

Despite his departure, Dr Bacary Thior reiterated his commitment to serving the nation, emphasizing his readiness to contribute wherever his expertise is needed. He also pledged continued support for Ousmane Sonko, who currently serves as both the president of the Pastef party and the Speaker of the National Assembly.

In his message, he expressed gratitude to his colleagues while acknowledging any shortcomings and extending forgiveness to those he worked with.
