The confrontation unfolded at a drinking establishment in eMagogeni, where the suspect is seen striking the elderly woman repeatedly with fists, feet, and even a beer crate. A third individual is heard laughing in the background as the victim, visibly injured, lies helpless on the ground.
Mpumalanga pension dispute leads to violent confrontation
Initial police reports indicate the altercation stemmed from a financial disagreement. The elderly woman had gone to the tavern to confront her grandson after discovering that her retirement pension funds—meant for groceries and utility bills—had gone missing. The confrontation escalated into physical violence, resulting in her severe injuries.
The rapid spread of the video, alongside swift police intervention, led to the suspect’s quick identification and arrest. He is now in police custody and will face charges for deliberate assault and aggravated assault in a local court.
