Tchad and Algeria strengthen oil sector ties during high-level meeting

The Director-General of Chad’s downstream petroleum sector regulator, Hassan Adoum Younousmi, met with Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, on June 16 in Algiers. The high-level discussion took place at the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons, with key advisors from both sides present.

The meeting underscored Algeria and Chad’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in implementing recent joint agreements. The talks centered on critical aspects of the downstream oil sector, including regulatory frameworks, energy infrastructure expansion, refining capabilities, storage solutions, and fuel distribution networks.

Industrial safety standards, digital transformation of operations, and transparent governance models were also high on the agenda, reflecting a shared vision for modernization and accountability in the sector.

This engagement follows the signing of a cooperation protocol on April 23, 2026, between Chad’s ARSAT and Algeria’s hydrocarbon regulator, aimed at strengthening technical and institutional collaboration. The agreement focuses on knowledge exchange, adopting best practices, and building national capacity within both countries.

Both delegations reaffirmed their dedication to fostering stronger Algerian-Chadian relations and leveraging shared expertise to drive sustainable development and continental integration across Africa.

« Chad remains fully committed to working hand-in-hand with our Algerian partners to advance our downstream petroleum industry and elevate local expertise, » stated Hassan Adoum Younousmi following the discussions.
