In a major stride toward sustainable energy, Tchad’s eastern town of Adré has welcomed its first solar power plant. The inauguration ceremony on August 7, 2026, held under the leadership of the Assoungha regional prefect, brought together key stakeholders including the head of the Rural Electrification and Energy Management Agency, local officials, technical partners, and community leaders.

Adré’s solar plant: a model for rural electrification

The 2.808-megawatt hybrid solar facility is designed to enhance electricity supply, improve living conditions, and spur economic growth in Adré and surrounding areas. Mayor Ahmat Abderrahim emphasized the project’s transformative impact, calling it a testament to the government’s dedication to energy access in the region.

Government vision powers Adré’s energy future

Younous Daoussa Mahamat, Director-General of the Rural Electrification and Energy Management Agency, highlighted that the plant reflects the highest level of state commitment. He stated that the project was personally instructed by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who has prioritized universal energy access as a national priority. The facility features 4,800 photovoltaic panels, a 7.52-megawatt-hour battery storage system, two 500 KVA backup generators, and an extensive 15-kilometer network of medium and low-voltage power lines.

Local leaders celebrate a new era of development

Prefect Dillo Bergou conveyed the gratitude of Adré’s residents to the President, praising the project’s role in unlocking the region’s potential. The inauguration concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a guided tour of the plant, symbolizing a new chapter in Tchad’s renewable energy journey.

This milestone underscores the country’s broader push toward clean energy, positioning solar power as a cornerstone of long-term sustainable development in Tchad.
