Tchad: Vice-premier minister evaluates local governance in Moundou

Chad’s Vice-Prime Minister for Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, is currently conducting an on-site assessment of local governance in Moundou. The two-day mission, launched on May 20, 2026, brings together key provincial and municipal leaders from southern Chad’s Logone Occidental region.

The working sessions, held at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, include delegates from government agencies, local authorities, and elected representatives. Dago Yacoub, the government delegate for Logone Occidental, welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena, emphasizing that the initiative aims to deepen understanding of regional challenges and prioritize community needs. He stressed that the visit provides a hands-on opportunity to address grassroots concerns directly.

In his address, Vice-Prime Minister Limane Mahamat highlighted the strategic importance of southern Chad, describing the region as the country’s agricultural backbone due to its vital role in food security. He also underscored persistent security challenges, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and arms trafficking, which he noted are undermining social cohesion and exacerbating divisions.

The mission reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening local governance and fostering better coordination between central authorities and territorial administrations.
