Tchadian migrants return from Libya with OIM support

The government of Chad successfully facilitated the voluntary return of 162 of its citizens from Benghazi, in eastern Libya, with assistance from the International Organization for Migration (OIM). This coordinated effort, led by Chadian consular authorities, also included outreach sessions to educate the Chadian community about Libyan residency rules and the hazards of irregular migration.

After months of difficult circumstances in Benghazi, 162 Chadian nationals arrived in N’Djamena as part of a coordinated voluntary repatriation initiative. The operation, supported by the International Organization for Migration, was executed under the supervision of Chadian diplomatic missions in Libya.

The program reflects Chad’s ongoing commitment to protect its citizens abroad. Consular teams organized information sessions in Benghazi, covering Libyan immigration laws and the risks of unsafe migration routes. These discussions aimed to raise awareness and reduce the vulnerabilities faced by Chadian migrants living in Libya.

Government officials emphasized that this repatriation is part of a broader strategy to assist citizens struggling with residency or employment challenges overseas. They confirmed that further support programs, in collaboration with international partners, are being planned to address the needs of Chadians abroad.
