Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye condemns Ousmane Sonko’s remarks on Touba’s integrity

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye répond à Ousmane Sonko : « Assimiler Touba à un lieu de recel d'argent sale est un profond manque de respect »

Recent remarks by Ousmane Sonko during his visit to Touba continue to provoke strong reactions across the political landscape. Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, the Minister of Land and Air Transport, forcefully criticized the Pastef leader’s assertions that “stolen money” had been infused into the holy city.

In a public statement, Minister Ndiaye emphasized that these claims tarnish the reputation of Touba and its community. “To equate Touba with a hub for illicit funds demonstrates a profound disrespect for the sacred city, its inhabitants, and the core values of Mouridism,” he declared.

“A disregard for Touba’s spiritual heritage”

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye argued that Ousmane Sonko’s statements reveal a deep ignorance of Touba’s rich history and spiritual mission. “One must possess a profound disregard for Touba and its spiritual legacy to accuse its people of receiving stolen money,” the minister asserted.

He underscored that the residents of this revered city are renowned for their unwavering adherence to Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s teachings and the foundational Mouride values of dignity, hard work, and integrity. “Touba’s inhabitants are recognized for their dignity and devotion to Serigne Touba’s principles. To suggest they could be swayed by money is a grave misjudgment,” he insisted. The minister further suggested that the absence of key religious and local authorities during Ousmane Sonko’s visit signaled disapproval of his approach.

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye used this opportunity to commend President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s dedication to Touba. He stated that the Head of State pays close attention to the concerns of the holy city’s population. “The President understands the significance of Touba and its people. He consistently strives to provide concrete solutions to their challenges,” he affirmed. The minister also expressed his support for Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo, noting that the Premier, under the President’s leadership, is diligently working to expedite the resolution of various issues inherited from previous administrations.

Beyond the current controversy, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye urged political figures to prioritize national interests over divisive confrontations. He maintained that Senegal critically needs cohesion and unity to overcome its economic and social hurdles. Reaffirming his confidence in Bassirou Diomaye Faye, he characterized the Head of State as “a man of integrity, deeply devoted to his homeland, and entirely committed to serving the Nation.” “His sole focus is Senegal. Despite attacks and attempts to discredit him, he remains dedicated to his mission: meeting the expectations of Senegalese citizens and guiding the country toward progress and emergence,” the minister concluded.
