The Alliance for the Republic (APR) has voiced profound outrage over the detention of its member, Pape Malick Ndour, following a court-issued warrant in connection with the PRODAC case. In a strongly worded statement, the party led by former President Macky Sall accused Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of orchestrating what it termed a “hostage-taking” and labeled him the mastermind behind the move.
The APR argues that the charges stem from a 2018 report by the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF), despite Ndour’s appointment to PRODAC only in June 2019. The party dismisses this as a flimsy legal basis for what it calls the unjust judicial sequestration of an honorable citizen who, it claims, performed admirably as PRODAC coordinator.
Highlighting what it describes as a non-contradictory and unreliable forensic accounting report, the APR contends that the prosecution’s case rests on weak and contradictory assertions that distort reality. The party condemns the systematic use of pretrial detention in cases where fair trial guarantees appear severely compromised.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the APR warns that such decisions—based on shaky, inadequately verified, or outright false evidence—pose a serious threat to individual liberties. The party argues that this case raises broader concerns about due process, presumption of innocence, and public freedoms, warning against a slippery slope toward political criminalization and intimidation.
The APR reaffirms its unwavering support for Pape Malick Ndour, his family, associates, and legal team, urging all party members to remain vigilant and united against any attempt to undermine democratic principles and fundamental freedoms. It holds the government fully accountable for any harm—physical or moral—inflicted upon Ndour and demands his immediate and unconditional release.
Concluding its statement, the APR vows to stand firm alongside those facing injustice, declaring its conviction that justice will ultimately prevail over arbitrariness.
