Alajbegovic’s journey to Turin began inauspiciously. Signed from 1. FC Köln’s youth ranks, he spent two seasons in Leverkusen’s development system before being loaned to Red Bull Salzburg in 2024. The Austrian club initially acquired him for just €2 million, with Leverkusen retaining an €8 million buy-back clause. When Salzburg triggered his potential, Leverkusen activated the clause, only to flip him again—this time for a staggering transfer fee.

Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting director, shed light on Leverkusen’s rationale: « After progressing through our youth system, Kerim took another major step forward in Salzburg. However, our senior squad already boasts exceptional depth in his preferred positions. Given the global transfer market’s current valuation and the quality of incoming reinforcements, we concluded that this was the optimal moment to monetise his potential. »
Alajbegovic’s versatility—capable of playing on either flank or as an attacking midfielder—places him in direct competition with several high-profile signings this summer. The club’s recent acquisitions, Afonso Bastardo Moreira (€29.5m from Olympique Lyonnais) and Eliesse Ben-Seghir (21, €21m), alongside established talents Malik Tillman and Ibrahim Maza, have further intensified the battle for minutes.
