As part of ongoing efforts to modernize Bénin’s national road network, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, Georges Alé, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection tour of three pivotal construction sites. His visit underscored a firm commitment to technical excellence, environmental protection, public health considerations, and strict adherence to contractual timelines for these vital infrastructure developments.
The ministerial delegation’s first stop was at the Djonou bridge, located within the Abomey-Calavi commune. Here, all dredging operations have been successfully completed. This crucial work has effectively cleared the waterway, ensuring efficient stormwater drainage and enhancing the overall safety and resilience of the structure.
Minister Alé then proceeded to the construction site for the 2×2 lane expansion of the Missessinto-Allada section (RNIE2), a project being executed by the SCET Tunisie / BECI BTP consortium. While acknowledging the satisfactory progress and dynamic pace of the work, Georges Alé firmly reiterated the imperative of scrupulously following the agreed-upon schedule. His objective is to swiftly deliver a modern and secure roadway for the benefit of all users.
The inspection tour concluded at the Allada roundabout and the associated retention basins established in the area. Demonstrating keen attention to sanitation issues, the minister instructed the technical teams to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health. This proactive measure aims to anticipate and mitigate any potential health risks that could arise from stagnant water accumulation.
Concluding his thorough assessment, Georges Alé reaffirmed the government’s ambitious vision: « We are constructing for multiple generations. This necessitates prioritizing safety, public health, and uncompromised quality in every single component of our work. »
