In recent years, various terrorist entities, notably the Islamic State, have cultivated extensive training networks. These networks include AI specialists from around the globe who are deployed to instruct their operatives on the ground.

Members of Boko Haram have recounted attending structured training sessions, complete with slides and projectors, designed to equip them with proficiency in AI tools. They assert that this newfound knowledge has enabled them to unlock and reactivate certain foreign-made weapons, advising them to clean components with diesel based on AI guidance.
Furthermore, advanced AI models such as ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini have provided jihadist factions with instructions for fabricating novel and more potent explosives for combat scenarios.
Significantly, operatives, guided by AI, mastered the technique of traversing a ditch on a motorcycle, reminiscent of a scene from an action film, to launch an assault on a military installation in Nigeria.
While these Islamist groups have previously utilized AI primarily for propaganda purposes, they are now transforming this technology into a formidable operational asset. This strategic shift is underscored by a recurring mantra within Boko Haram’s ranks: “Allah has helped us, AI will help us too.”
