Social Democratic Front establishes new election preparation body

The Social Democratic Front (SDF), Cameroon’s leading opposition party, has taken decisive steps to prepare for the upcoming 2027 municipal and legislative elections. During a June 13 meeting in Bamenda, the party’s National Executive Committee approved the creation of a new National Election Preparation Commission.

This technical body will be responsible for structuring the party’s organizational framework ahead of the polls, ensuring a campaign built on transparency and efficiency. The move reflects the SDF’s commitment to strengthening its grassroots presence and addressing recent electoral setbacks.

Louis Marie Kakdeu appointed to lead election commission

At the Bamenda meeting, the SDF named economist and university professor Louis Marie Kakdeu as director of the National Election Preparation Commission. A trusted ally of party leader Joshua Osih, Kakdeu previously served as Osih’s campaign director for the October 2025 presidential election.

With expertise in budgetary, economic and fiscal matters, Kakdeu brings a strong academic and strategic background to his new role. His appointment signals the SDF’s determination to rebuild its political machinery at the grassroots level while ensuring robust monitoring at polling stations through increased deployment of scrutineers.

The commission’s mandate includes identifying qualified candidates in underserved constituencies, revitalizing the SDF’s traditional strongholds, and methodically structuring the party’s campaign infrastructure for the legislative and municipal elections.
