Eight lives lost as Boko Haram strikes again in far north Cameroon
In the dead of night on friday, armed assailants believed to be members of Boko Haram launched a brutal assault on the village of Kangaleri in Cameroon’s far north region. The attack, which began around 11 pm, left the community reeling from loss and fear.
Six individuals were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries. Tragically, two more victims passed away from their wounds by the following day, bringing the provisional death toll to eight. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and as of saturday, one survivor remained hospitalized, battling for recovery.
The attackers, exploiting the cover of darkness, descended on the village before vanishing into the night. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the assault and work to identify those who fell victim.
Just hours earlier, a separate but similarly motivated attack unfolded in Tourou, a town near the nigerian border in the Mokolo district. Jihadists reportedly looted livestock and property before destroying a nearby market in the town center. No immediate casualties were reported for this incident, though officials have yet to release further details.
The far north region of Cameroon remains a frequent target of Boko Haram and splinter factions, despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by cameroonian forces and partners in the multinational joint task force operating along the lake Chad basin.
