A significant shift has emerged in the Senegalese political landscape as three prominent ministers, including Yankhoba Diémé, have announced their departure from Pastef. These key figures are now pledging their full support to President Diomaye, openly describing the former party of Ousmane Sonko as an “empty shell.” This development signals a major realignment within Senegal politics.
Ministers Ibrahima Sy, Yankhoba Diémé, and Alioune Dione have decisively turned their backs on Pastef. These individuals, who were once active members alongside Ousmane Sonko before his tenure as prime minister concluded, have now made their political allegiances clear.
Their decision was unequivocal, disregarding their previous roles as staunch opponents of Macky Sall in their earlier support for Ousmane Sonko. They have chosen to prioritize “the Republic” over any personal interests or past affiliations.
“There is nothing left of Pastef. It has become an empty shell,” declared Yankhoba Diémé, who previously served as the departmental coordinator for Pastef in Bignona, delivering a pointed critique. Echoing this sentiment, Alioune Dione, a former political leader for Pastef in Diourbel, affirmed his commitment, stating, “I, along with all my brethren, pledge to join and become members of President Diomaye’s party.”
