Pitch contamination forces postponement of Celta Vigo vs Osasuna
A scheduled fixture between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, set for Sunday’s opening day of LaLiga, has been officially postponed after an inspection revealed severe fungal contamination on the Balaídos pitch.
New kick-off time confirmed for August 27
The Spanish top-flight’s governing body has already announced the match will now take place on Thursday, August 27 at 20:30, following coordination with both clubs and the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The decision was confirmed after a full-day assessment of the pitch on Wednesday.
LaLiga gains full scheduling authority
Since midway through last season, LaLiga has held complete autonomy over fixture scheduling, eliminating the need for further approval from the national federation. This move reflects the league’s strengthened operational independence in managing match calendars.
Three other opening-day games already delayed
This postponement follows earlier shifts in the season’s inaugural weekend, including fixtures involving Valencia vs Real Betis, Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad, and Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao. The league continues to prioritize optimal playing conditions for the season’s kickoff.
