Morocco praised for pivotal role in managing migration flows

Regional leadership in migration governance

The Moroccan-American scholar Mohamed Daadaoui has highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in preventing irregular migration during a recent discussion in Washington. As a regional leader and international partner, Morocco has earned recognition for its proactive migration policies, which have been widely praised for their effectiveness and transparency.

Balancing cooperation and national capacity

Speaking on the Kingdom’s collaborative efforts with Spain, Daadaoui underscored the success of joint operations targeting human trafficking networks and maritime rescue missions. However, he emphasized that sustainable solutions require shared responsibility. « While Morocco excels in border control, it cannot single-handedly resolve the broader challenges of irregular migration », he noted, stressing that transit countries alone cannot bear this burden.

Call for deeper European partnership

Daadaoui concluded by urging European policymakers to address the root causes driving migration—such as economic disparities—while reinforcing strategic cooperation with Morocco. « Effective migration management in the Mediterranean hinges on close collaboration with Rabat », he stated, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a trusted and reliable partner in this global challenge.
