Morocco is stepping up efforts to secure the substantial financing required for the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline (GAA), a landmark initiative developed in collaboration with Nigeria. Rabat has formally requested the mobilization of 26 billion dollars from the United States Export-Import Bank and the World Bank to advance this transformative energy project.
According to Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, these financial institutions are being approached to provide critical support for the pipeline’s construction and operational phases. The ambition is to create a robust energy corridor that will connect West African gas reserves to European markets via Moroccan infrastructure.
The proposed pipeline is designed to stretch over thousands of kilometers, linking key gas-producing countries in the region while fostering economic integration and energy security. By leveraging strategic partnerships, Morocco aims to position itself as a pivotal player in Africa’s energy landscape.
