n’djamena: extensive anti-crime operation results in 252 arrests
A significant sweep in N’Djamena led to the apprehension of 252 individuals and the confiscation of illegal substances, bolstering efforts against crime in the Chadian capital.

A combined security commission launched a sweeping anti-crime operation on Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting several identified crime hotspots across N’Djamena. This extensive intervention, which brought together various law enforcement and security units, including the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT), the National Gendarmerie, the National Police, the Judicial Police, and other specialized services, resulted in the arrest of 252 individuals and the confiscation of numerous illegal items and substances.
The operation specifically focused on areas such as Mandjakoli in the 5th district, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd district, as well as Colombie and other neighborhoods within the Chadian capital.
Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, reported that both sellers and consumers of various illicit drugs were apprehended during the crackdown. Among the seized narcotics were substances commonly known as “Colorado” and “Bongo,” alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.
The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. The 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad (GNNT) also played active roles in the operation.
Following the successful intervention, a total of 252 individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a range of confiscated items, including various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.
General Ali Ahmat Aghabache, the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, received a comprehensive report on the operation’s outcome.
This major operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by internal security forces to enhance citizen safety, uphold public order, and combat all forms of criminal activity, with a particular focus on the trafficking and consumption of illegal substances throughout the capital.
