In a decisive move to reclaim public spaces, the municipal authorities of N’Djaména’s 7th district have initiated a sweeping operation to clear encroachments along the Taïwan Avenue. Launched on Monday, this campaign targets chaotic street vending, unauthorized structures, and stray animals obstructing traffic, aiming to restore order and enhance urban livability.
The operation, spearheaded by District Mayor Adoum Hassan Djimet, addresses critical concerns over traffic congestion and road safety in the area. Unregulated roadside activities have long contributed to hazardous conditions, with blocked lanes leading to frequent accidents and fatalities.
The Mayor emphasized the urgency of collective responsibility, stating, “We must free the streets from obstruction. Every citizen must embrace this change. Lives are lost daily because reckless behavior turns roads into death traps.”
Strict enforcement measures are now in effect. Individuals found illegally occupying public thoroughfares will face penalties, including confiscation of goods and livestock. The Mayor warned, “Those who persist in blocking roads will be held accountable. Their merchandise will be seized, and stray animals will be impounded.”
Restoring order for a safer future
The initiative reflects broader efforts to modernize N’Djaména’s urban infrastructure. By reclaiming sidewalks and roadways, local authorities seek to create a more orderly environment that prioritizes pedestrian safety and smooth traffic flow. Residents are urged to adapt to these changes by avoiding unauthorized use of public spaces.
