PASTEF is moving forward with its congress preparations, officially commencing the submission period for candidates vying for the party’s top leadership position.
According to an official statement from the Haute Autorité de Régulation du Parti (HARP), prospective candidates can submit their applications starting from May 15, 2026, at midnight, until May 20, 2026, at noon.
HARP also confirmed that comprehensive declaration forms will be made available to all individuals seeking to contend for the party’s leadership.
This procedural step is integral to the comprehensive organization of PASTEF’s congress, which is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for the ruling party’s internal structure and overall consolidation.
Despite the formal process, there is minimal uncertainty surrounding this internal election, as Ousmane Sonko, the movement’s pivotal figure and long-standing leader, is widely expected to retain his position at the helm of the political formation following the congress.
