This powerful pronouncement emerges amidst escalating tensions between the nation’s two highest executive figures. The political climate is marked by a clear reconfiguration of the presidential majority and the establishment of this new party.
This development follows several months of public divergence between the head of state and his erstwhile government chief. Their respective national addresses had increasingly shown differences in tone, culminating in the definitive separation between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.
Concurrently, Ousmane Sonko, who leads Pastef, has been actively engaged in a nationwide campaign to register new members for his party.
