Senegal fuel price hike takes effect august 15, 2026

The Senegalese government has announced a new fuel price adjustment, effective from Saturday, August 15, 2026. Both super gasoline and diesel will see significant increases, with the former rising by 70 F CFA per liter and the latter by 75 F CFA per liter. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has attributed this decision to the sharp rise in global oil prices, driven primarily by the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

International market trends reveal a dramatic surge in fuel prices since July 13, with diesel climbing by 26.6% and super gasoline by 12%. Since the conflict began, these increases have reached 69% for diesel and 61% for super gasoline, creating unprecedented pressure on domestic fuel markets.

In response, the Senegalese government has decided to reverse the price reductions implemented on December 6, 2025. The new regulated prices will set super gasoline at 990 F CFA per liter and diesel at 755 F CFA per liter. Other petroleum products will remain unaffected by this adjustment.

The government’s decision comes as it faces mounting financial strain from fuel subsidies, which have already exceeded 245 billion F CFA since January. Without this price correction, the subsidy burden for the period of August 15 to September 12, 2026, would have ballooned to nearly 47.27 billion F CFA.
