French football is preparing to lose one of its brightest young talents. Following several weeks of deliberations, Toulouse FC and Sunderland have finalized a deal for left-back Dayann Methalie. The TFC and the Black Cats have agreed on a complete transfer arrangement for the 20-year-old during this summer transfer window.

Initially rejecting a bid approaching €33 million earlier in the week, Toulouse FC has now accepted a revised offer of approximately €30 million (including bonuses) from Sunderland. The revised agreement, which includes a more favorable distribution of performance-related bonuses, has convinced the French club’s leadership—led by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus—to finalize the deal with the young defender.

Methalie is expected to travel to England this Saturday to complete his medical examination before officially joining Sunderland on a five-year contract, as previously reported.

Methalie: A French football prospect on the rise

Dayann Methalie, a Toulouse academy graduate, has already committed to a five-year deal with Sunderland. The French Under-21 international has enjoyed an impressive season with the Violets, establishing himself as a promising left-back.

With a transfer fee of around €30 million, Toulouse FC is securing significant revenue—a figure comparable to the club’s recent sale of Brazilian defender Emersonn to Ipswich Town for nearly €32 million.

Methalie’s versatility in defense and attack has been evident this season, contributing two goals and two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. Despite interest from multiple foreign clubs during the summer transfer window, the 20-year-old was swayed by Sunderland’s ambitious project under manager Régis Le Bris, which prioritizes attacking football.
