The Sénégal women’s national football team is prepared to take on Tunisie in the second round of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic qualifiers. This crucial double-header is set to take place in October 2026.
The draw for the African women’s Olympic football qualifying tournament was conducted on Wednesday, April 29. This ceremony established the full roadmap for the competition, which is scheduled to run from June 1, 2026, through December 4, 2027.
Structure of the African qualifiers
The qualification journey consists of five rounds, all played in a home-and-away format. The initial round involves only the six lowest-ranked nations according to FIFA: Soudan will play Comores, Soudan du Sud will face Madagascar, and Maurice will compete against Djibouti.
Second round matchups and beyond
Most African nations will enter the fray during the second round in October 2026. This includes Maroc, the finalists of the most recent Women’s AFCON, who will face Congo. Interestingly, a high-stakes meeting with Nigéria—the reigning African champions who participated in Paris 2024—could happen as early as the third round.
The winner of the Sénégal vs Tunisie series will advance to meet the victor of the Mali and Bénin clash. For Algérie, the quest for a spot in Los Angeles begins with a match against the République centrafricaine. Meanwhile, Zambie, another representative from the Paris 2024 Games, must defeat Ouganda and potentially Ghana to keep their hopes alive for a third consecutive Olympic appearance.
