President Diomaye Faye Unveils New Political Formation
In a move that marks a new chapter in Senegalese politics, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially launched his new political party, ‘Kiiraay – The Patriotic Republicans’.
The launch took place at an assembly general meeting held at a hotel in Dakar on Saturday, July 25.
Key Principles of Kiiraay
‘Kiiraay’ adopts the motto ‘The Homeland First’, asserting its commitment to defending national interests, strengthening republican institutions and consolidating the rule of law.
The party’s name is derived from the Wolof language, where ‘kiiraay’ means ‘that which protects’.
Initiators see this name as a symbol of their party’s mission to accompany President Diomaye Faye’s governance project and unite forces supporting his vision for Senegal’s transformation.
Leadership and Partnerships
Following the assembly, delegates unanimously elected Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the party’s president. This decision represents a shift in his political stance, following his departure from the leadership of Pastef at the beginning of his presidential term.
A resolution read by Aminata Touré, General Supervisor of the former coalition Diomaye President, stated that Kiiraay results from the merger of 437 parties, movements and associations united around a common project aiming to support reforms initiated by President Diomaye Faye and Senegal’s development ambitions.
