The attendance of Chad at the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, has yielded significant outcomes. The country has been officially added as the 11th eligible nation for the Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations (BCRUP) program under the United Nations Green Climate Fund, previously limited to ten member states.
This international acknowledgment highlights Chad’s proactive stance in addressing critical urban challenges such as flooding, population displacement, and climate disruptions affecting its cities and towns.
During the forum, the Chadian delegation, led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata, met with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat to discuss urban resilience priorities and potential collaboration pathways. Following these talks, an initial project secured funding between $900,000 and $1 million, paving the way for additional financing opportunities from UN-Habitat in the coming months.
