The Republic of Chad has been named the guest of honor for the 54th celebration of Cameroon National Day, set for May 20, 2026, in Yaoundé and across all regions of the country.
A celebration rooted in national unity
Known as the Festival of Unity, this annual event honors the country’s national cohesion and stands as one of Cameroon’s most significant institutional and patriotic occasions. The 2026 theme, “National unity: the foundation of our defense and the cornerstone of Cameroon’s growth”, underscores the deep connection between social cohesion and national progress.
Grand parade and nationwide festivities
In Yaoundé, the celebration will feature a major civil and military parade, showcasing the country’s defense and security forces, school groups, youth organizations, and various sectors of Cameroonian society. Similar events will unfold in all ten regions of Cameroon, ensuring broad participation.
New initiatives for broader engagement
The Ministry of Youth has introduced fresh elements to this year’s festivities, including a national carnival celebrating cultural diversity and a week-long decentralization of events. By extending the celebrations over seven days, organizers aim to bring the festivities closer to local communities, fostering greater inclusion.
