A declaration delivered by Morocco’s UN Ambassador Omar Zniber on behalf of the group underscored that the Sahara issue remains aligned with the political path advocated by the United Nations under the supervision of the Security Council.

The statement emphasized that Morocco’s autonomy initiative provides a serious and realistic foundation for achieving a lasting political solution, while reaffirming support for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which aims to reinvigorate the political process with the involvement of all concerned parties.

Countries backing the initiative also praised Morocco’s efforts in drafting the autonomy proposal and its commitment to integrating residents of the Tindouf camps while safeguarding their rights equally with other citizens. Additionally, they commended Morocco’s cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms, deeming it a positive step toward advancing and protecting rights and freedoms.

The communiqué highlighted that the opening of general consulates by several nations in Laayoune and Dakhla reflects growing international support for Morocco, fostering development, investment, and regional cooperation in the southern provinces. The group concluded by stressing that resolving the conflict would serve as a catalyst for integration and growth across African and Arab regions.
