Amin Mohamed: the referee who will oversee the Argentina vs Austria World Cup duel

In the spotlight for one of the most anticipated fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup second round, Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed has been entrusted with the responsibility of officiating the high-stakes Argentina vs Austria encounter. The match, scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 5:00 PM local time, will unfold at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Dallas.

Mohamed will be supported by his compatriots Mahmoud Abouelregal and Ahmed Hossam Taja, who will serve as assistant referees. The Spanish team of Alejandro Hernández and Diego Sánchez will act as the fourth official and reserve assistant referee, respectively.

This is not the first time Amin Mohamed has taken charge of a World Cup match in this tournament. He previously handled the Group Stage clash between South Korea and the Czech Republic with a performance that met FIFA’s stringent standards. Amin Mohamed’s journey to the pinnacle of refereeing began in Egypt’s top division in 2013. His international debut followed in 2018, when he was selected to referee a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Uganda and Lesotho. Since then, he has steadily climbed the ranks, officiating in major continental competitions such as the CAF Champions League, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, and two matches during the 2025 edition of the tournament.
