The government of Bénin has conveyed its unwavering support to the people of Niger following a targeted assault on Niamey’s international airport on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
In an official statement released from Cotonou, Bénin’s authorities expressed deep concern over the incident and condemned the attack on a critical civilian infrastructure.
« The attack on Niamey’s international airport is an unacceptable act that jeopardizes regional security and endangers innocent lives, » the statement emphasized, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
The communiqué also extended solidarity to Niger’s leadership, including President Abdourahamane Tiani, while reaffirming the long-standing bonds of friendship between the two nations.
« The people and government of Bénin stand firmly with the people of Niger in this challenging moment, » the announcement concluded, reinforcing the shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.
