Ewen Jaouen seals Premier League move with Newcastle United from Stade de Reims
- Reims
After three seasons at Stade de Reims, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen will join England’s Premier League. The French club confirmed the transfer to Newcastle United on June 10.
The transfer of Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims to Newcastle United in the Premier League is now official. The 20-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Reims three years ago, has just completed his most successful season yet in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, with 15 clean sheets—the highest total in both divisions combined.
The club described him as “one of France’s most promising young goalkeepers,” praising his reflex saves, composure on the ball, and remarkable maturity. His performances have earned him his first call-up to the French Under-21 national team.
From promising talent to French football’s next big thing
Reims recognized Jaouen’s potential early in 2023. After starting in the reserve team, he was loaned out—first to Rodez, where he became the youngest goalkeeper ever to start in Europe’s top five leagues and their second divisions at just 18 years old. The following season, he joined Dunkerque, helping the team reach the Coupe de France semifinals.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Jaouen dedicated time to mentoring young players at AS Gueux, training them several times a week. He even accompanied them on weekend matches across the region when his schedule allowed. Just before his departure, the young players visited him one last time at the Raymond Kopa training center.
