On 23 September 2026, Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallè Bibehè, received a Libyan delegation led by Adel Shawi, Chargé d’affaires at the Libyan embassy in Cameroon. The two sides discussed the possibility of opening a direct air route between their countries.
Cameroon welcomed the initiative and proposed setting up working groups that would bring together relevant officials to examine in depth the various issues linked to reactivating this cooperation. Both parties also plan to step up any necessary preliminary steps and identify concrete ways to implement the project.
Cameroon has expressed its willingness to support initiatives that could strengthen air links between Yaoundé and Tripoli. The move is also seen as a way to boost economic and logistical cooperation between the two nations.
On 17 September 2026, Libyan carrier MesSky operated its first direct flight connecting Tripoli to Paris, with a service from Benghazi also planned. The resumption comes amid a gradual reopening of Libya’s air sector, even as security risks continue to weigh on its aviation industry.
