Libya Takes Steps to Strengthen Border Security
The Libyan government has announced a massive border patrol operation aimed at strengthening security in the country’s southern region, where thousands of migrants have been trying to reach Europe.
Colonel Ahmed Abu Qila, commander of desert patrols in the region, said that the operation will take place from Sebha and Umm al-Aranib, passing through Qatrun, Dahaan Murzuq, and Tajarhi, before reaching the border with Chad.
The operation is part of a broader effort to combat illegal immigration, which has become a major security concern for Libya.
Abu Qila said that the goal of the operation is to create a secure zone along the border, where migrants can be safely intercepted and returned to their home countries.
