In a landmark decision announced by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has officially named its Tiznit-Dakhla expressway the “Donald J. Trump Highway”, honoring the former US president. The announcement was made through a royal letter sent to President Trump on July 2, revealing the historic gesture.

King Mohammed VI emphasized the move was to express gratitude for Trump’s “historic recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara in 2020,” a decision Morocco views as pivotal in its long-standing territorial claim. The 1,055 km highway now stands as “Africa’s longest road infrastructure,” according to the monarch’s statement.

The naming ceremony reflects deep diplomatic appreciation, with the monarch stating that this moment “will forever remain etched in the memory of all Moroccans.”

In response, former President Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on July 26, expressing his enthusiasm. “Thank you to His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI… What an incredible honor! I look forward to driving this magnificent highway someday soon!” he wrote, though Rabat has yet to confirm his planned visit.
