President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has delivered a pointed message, widely interpreted as a direct address to his former prime minister, Ousmane Sonko. Speaking at the official launch of his new political movement, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes républicains, the President issued a clear caution: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex ». This powerful statement translates to: “Here, from now on, what was once tolerated will no longer be accepted.”
In his significant address, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s enduring reputation as a nation committed to stability and lasting peace. This public declaration emerges amid a period of escalating political friction between the two leading figures of the executive branch, framed by a redefinition of the presidential majority and the establishment of President Faye’s new party.
The President’s intervention follows several months of increasingly public disagreements between the head of state and his former government chief. These divergences were evident in the distinct tones of their respective national addresses and culminated in the definitive rupture between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.
It is noteworthy that Ousmane Sonko, the president of Pastef, is concurrently engaged in his own strategic initiative, having recently commenced a nationwide campaign with his party comrades to sell membership cards.
