Senegal assembly reacts to constitutional council ruling on reform bill

The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, addressed the nation this Thursday regarding the Constitutional Council’s decision to strike down the constitutional reform bill passed by lawmakers. The leader of the Pastef movement acknowledged the ruling of the « Seven Sages », affirming that the verdict « applies to all ».

« Beyond any comments or differing interpretations of the reasons behind the decision, one thing remains clear: this ruling applies to all. Noted, » Ousmane Sonko stated in a public statement.

For the parliamentary leader, this moment underscores the importance of institutional roles. « When institutions fulfill their duties within their designated scope, no crisis can arise, » he emphasized.

Ousmane Sonko further reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to its mandate. « The National Assembly will continue to carry out its duties fully: laws will be passed or rejected to honor the commitments made to this resilient and dignified people, » he declared.
