Bénin swears in 895 new recruits to police and forestry corps
The military training center in Bèmbèrèkè witnessed a historic ceremony as 895 recruits from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts of the Corps des Eaux, Forêts et Chasse and the 2025 class of the Police républicaine were officially sworn in.
An emotional milestone for new security defenders
The event, held on 25 June, brought together top government officials, family members, and dignitaries to witness the recruits’ symbolic transition from civilian life to active service. The ceremony centered around the presentation to the national flag, a solemn ritual marking their commitment to uphold public safety and environmental conservation across the nation.
A rigorous journey to service
Over months of intensive training, these recruits underwent demanding physical and tactical drills to prepare for their dual roles: enforcing law and order while safeguarding Benin’s natural heritage. The ceremony’s most anticipated moment was the awarding of the fourragère, a ceremonial sash symbolizing their readiness to face the challenges ahead as guardians of the nation’s security and ecological stability.
Leadership’s call to duty
In his address, Lieutenant-Colonel Armand Assogbaga, commander of the training center, underscored the gravity of the occasion. He reminded the recruits that their oath was not a mere formality but a lifelong pledge demanding unwavering discipline, courage, and loyalty to the Republic of Benin. The ceremony was presided over by ministers overseeing Interior and Public Security, as well as National Defense, with the presence of top military and police leadership, including the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and the Director-General of the Police républicaine.
Strengthening Benin’s national security framework
With this new cohort of trained personnel, Benin reinforces its commitment to combating crime and environmental threats through a well-prepared, professional force. Their integration into the ranks marks a significant step in enhancing the country’s defense and ecological protection capabilities, ensuring a safer future for all citizens.
