Chad and France deepen military ties at Eurosatory defense forum
Chad and France strengthen their military partnership at the Eurosatory defense exhibition, focusing on regional security and air capabilities.
During the Eurosatory international defense and security exhibition, Chad’s Minister of National Defense, War Veterans, and Victims of War, General Issakha Malloua Djamouss, held talks with his French counterpart, Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin. This meeting follows ongoing political dialogue between Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The discussions centered on bilateral relations and potential avenues for defense and security cooperation. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to upholding each other’s strategic interests and sovereignty, as outlined by Chad’s Ministry of Defense.
The ministers explored ways to implement the recently signed memorandum of understanding between Chad and France. They emphasized building a partnership rooted in mutual trust and continuous dialogue to address today’s security challenges.
Chad reiterated its dedication to balanced and mutually advantageous cooperation, crucial for regional stability and the enhancement of the Chadian Armed Forces’ capabilities. Key priorities include strengthening air force collaboration, with potential initiatives such as joint training, intelligence-sharing, and French support to bolster Chad’s aerial defense systems.
French military officials have expressed interest in regaining access to N’Djamena’s air base, a move that would enable rapid deployment or evacuation operations if needed. A Chadian general acknowledged that French involvement could strengthen responses to emerging security threats.
Chadian authorities are actively seeking closer security ties with France, reportedly dissatisfied with alternative partnership offers from other nations.
