Celebrating 27 years of Moroccan-Malian solidarity
The 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day festivities in Bamako became a powerful showcase of the deepening bonds between the two nations. Against the backdrop of economic development discussions, Moroccan and Malian officials reviewed the progress of their bilateral cooperation, highlighting achievements that benefit both populations.
Among the key figures present was Thierno Amadou Omar Hass Diallo, a former minister who emphasized the remarkable trajectory Morocco has followed in its African engagements. “Anyone observing the momentum shaping Morocco today will notice how this dynamism extends across its African relations, particularly in the Sahel region,” he remarked, pointing to the port of Dakhla’s strategic role in supporting landlocked African states.
The event resonated deeply with Abou Djitteye, a Moroccan-trained professional who expressed his pride in the flourishing Moroccan-Malian relationship. “It’s truly reassuring to witness how well our nations are collaborating,” he shared, extending his best wishes to His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Strategic partnerships driving African growth
Addressing the gathering, Morocco’s Ambassador to Mali, Driss Isbayène, underscored the transformative impact of the South-South cooperation model championed by His Majesty the King. “This approach is built on solidarity, mutual respect, and tangible projects that deliver direct benefits to African communities,” he explained, reinforcing that such initiatives are reshaping the continent’s future.
Isbayène went further, predicting that 2026 will be remembered as a milestone year in the shared history of Morocco and Mali. He highlighted a pivotal development: “The historic decision by Mali in April to withdraw recognition from the SADR has unlocked new potential for our already strong bilateral ties. This was solidified last week with the convening of the high-level Mali-Morocco joint commission meeting.”
Mali’s commitment to regional stability and development
Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for Morocco’s leadership in fostering peace, security, and economic progress across the Sahel. “This 27th anniversary serves as a reminder of Morocco’s steadfast backing—not just for Mali, but for all AES Confederation member states,” he stated.
Diop also praised the Royal Atlantic Initiative, a visionary project aimed at granting Sahelian nations access to the Atlantic Ocean. “This initiative will unlock unprecedented opportunities for trade, connectivity, and prosperity for our region,” he concluded.
