Cameroon’s government has firmly dismissed circulating rumors suggesting that President Paul Biya is no longer alive. In an official statement, government spokesperson René Emmanuel Sadi confirmed that the Head of State remains in good health and continues to fulfill his duties as leader of the nation.
The clarification came amid swirling speculations about Biya’s whereabouts and well-being, particularly after reports surfaced regarding his prolonged absence from the country. René Emmanuel Sadi addressed these concerns during a press briefing, stating, “President Paul Biya is alive and has not resigned. He will return to Cameroon soon, and there is no question of a power vacuum at this time.”
The government spokesperson did not provide a specific date for the President’s return but assured the public that all state institutions are functioning normally. He acknowledged that Biya underwent a medical procedure in Geneva, where he has been staying for over two months, but clarified that he is not hospitalized.
René Emmanuel Sadi emphasized that the question of a power vacuum is unfounded, as the Constitutional Council—the only body authorized to make such a determination—has not issued any statement on the matter. He reassured Cameroonians that the administration’s key officials are actively carrying out their responsibilities, reinforcing the stability of the country’s leadership.
